Besides looking delightfully pretty on the October cover of Numero Tokyo, style icon Alexa Chung delivered what is perhaps the most exciting news we’ve received in the past few days. The fashion savant-slash-perennial-It-girl of the decade revealed to the magazine that she is—finally—on her way towards designing her own clothing line. “Yes, I’m definitely going to do that. I’m looking into it right now. I’ve got nothing to lose, it’s a bit of fun,” said Chung.
Although this long overdue clothing line will be Chung’s first venture into retail, the British television personality has plenty of experiences given that she’s designed for Madewell before. In an industry hounded by celebrities who can easily brand themselves as a designer, Chung’s slow and steady transition from a front row fixture to a full-fledged designer will really do her forthcoming line good. For one, we at least know that Chung is no fashion fluke.
Talking about her upcoming line, Chung insists that she does the sketching herself. “In this current era of celebrity no one believes you actually design the stuff anyway, even though I sketch everything myself. So if it sucks I can say I had nothing to do with it, and if it’s really good I can say ‘Here are the drawings, it’s all my own work!’”
It may take a couple more months before we get a peek into what Chung has in store, but we’re practically readying ourselves for a line that will take us for a ride into her quirky wardrobe. With a long list of fashion credentials to back her up, Chung is definitely on her way to retail domination.
