Every drama has its own ending. After weeks in the headlines, the Balenciaga drama has finally come to an end. It has been confirmed today that Alexander Wang will assume the creative director position at Balenciaga.
“Balenciaga and PPR are pleased to announce the appointment of Alexander Wang to the post of Creative Director of the Balenciaga fashion house, as of today,” read in the statement released by the PPR luxury group. Wang will now be in charge of designing ready-to-wear clothes and accessories for men and women as well as the fashion house’s image.
“Alexander Wang will use his creativity and his own research to interpret and immortalize the distinctive, modern, and extremely innovative style imposed by Cristóbal Balenciaga,” said PRR CEO François-Henri Pinault.
While the new creative director performs his Balenciaga duties, the 28-year-old fashion designer will still continue to produce street-inspired collection for his own New York-based label. “I am deeply honored to embark on this new role for a brand and house that I have such great admiration and respect for,” said Wang.
Wang’s first task is to produce Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 2013 womenswear collection, which will debut at next season’s Paris Fashion Week.
