The impending cooler weeks ahead will take some getting used to since the past few months have been an endless showing of skin, but we really are ready for a change of fashion season. From poring through collections of summery maxis and cheery sun dresses, we’ve now turned our eyes to next season’s inescapable essential—sweaters—to let you in on next season’s most coveted pieces.
With September just around the corner, it’s time to realign your wardrobe and arm it for the cooler months ahead. While fall may be all about colors that inexplicably exude a feeling of moodiness and broodiness, we’d rather pay attention to the colorful personality of the past season and usher it into fall. Besides, how many solid black, gray or white sweaters do you already have lying on your closet floor?
Designers were seemingly on the same frequency as us, as they gave emphasis on sweaters with more personality and character. May they be colored, printed or heavily-embellished; there was no shortage of eye-catching sweaters that can be more than just another fall or winter cover-up.
Among the designs we’re counting as this season’s wardrobe musts are the playful yet still luxurious cashmere sweaters that appeared on Burberry’s fall runway show. The beaded owl motif on the front was a charming addition to their sweater lineup. Proenza Schouler’s geometric-printed sweater is another worthy purchase, as it somehow alludes to fashion’s fascination with the Aztec print.
As for fascinating colors on sweaters that make you forget it’s fall season in the first place, Alexander Wang and Jonathan Saunders have that covered. Wang’s design, bursting with acid yellow goodness, will be an edgy cover up for any drab fall outfit. Saunders’, on the other hand, somehow stepped back in time with his glorious yellow, rose and caramel-colored knitted sweater.
Whether you’re leaning more towards fall designs that ooze with larger than life personality or prefer the all-around versatility of a black and white sweater, we’re sure you’ll find a sweater that is right up your sartorial alley.
