There’s no denying that everybody in fashion assumed that the ginormous hula hoop bag that dangled on the shoulder of a model at Chanel’s spring 2013 presentation was nothing but a one-off runway accessory. How could it be sent into production when it already promises to be quite the hassle when you try to get it in your car? Karl Lagerfeld thinks otherwise though, as we just confirmed today that the bags will actually be sold in Chanel stores.
The gargantuan bag will indeed find its way to retail stores as Paris department store Printemps has already purchased it to be sold next season. There’s no word though if it’ll also be sold in their stores. For now however, we might just have to settle with the thought that the bag—whichever boutique and shelf it ends up on—will hit the market. For the faint-hearted, Chanel conveniently included the miniature version in their spring lineup. The bag, which also appeared on the runway, measures 24cm in diameter and will carry a $2,400 price.
Kitschy and unique, we’re pretty sure whoever dares bring—or drag—the ginormous bag with them will be earning a roundof applause for bravado alone. Whether you fall for this or not, one thing’s for sure: there really is no telling what Karl Lagerfeld has up his sleeves. Who’s to say he won’t sell us Chanel bags with a holographic detail featuring Choupette’s face months from now?
