Just when you thought that the name Christopher Kane will be pulled off newsstands after denying his rumored appointment at Balenciaga, think again. The controversies go on as the Scottish designer now ends his three-year run as Versus’ creative director. In a report, it is revealed that part of the reason is due to Versus’ major brand realignment, in which the label will be steered towards a more modern path that looks at a much younger clientele.
Initially, it was rumored that Christopher Kane’s contract was terminated. According to Versace CEO Gian Giacomo however, the decision and relationship between Kane and Donatella Versace just ran its course. “This was the right moment and a logical decision for everyone. We started thinking about the new Versus months ago, before the summer,” he said.
Don’t get your expectations too high for the new Versus though, since it will not present at a runway show unlike before. The new Versus, which will instead focus on digital presence, will be unveiled in March or April of next year.
Despite all these adjustments Kane is keen on insisting that he didn’t leave because he is going for a Balenciaga stint. “I am excited about the new Versus strategy, but the time has come to dedicate all my focus to the future of Christopher Kane label,” he clarified. Whether his explanation is true or not, we’re still hoping that when Balenciaga announces who its newest creative director is, it’ll be Kane.
