The thought of another designer leaving a longstanding partnership is as depressing as the vacancy at Dior. We are however, compelled to report the departure of Derek Lam as Milan-based Tod’s creative director. Lam, who has served the company well in the past six years, is known to have paved the way for the company’s entry into the RTW circle.
Although this news came as another curveball in the slew of designer departures in the industry, we’re pretty impressed with how Lam was able to balance his responsibility at Tod’s and his own line throughout those years. That’s not even counting his recently-launched diffusion line, 10 Crosby.
As of press time, both Tod’s and Lam have yet to elaborate on the details regarding this decision. With another designer open for another fashion house to nab, we’re anticipating another round of buzz to surface about the possibility of Lam stepping up to fill John Galliano’s shoes at Dior.
