Simon Spurr will find good company in Doo-Ri Chung as Women’s Wear Daily reports that the designer is leaving the label she founded in 2001. Chung, who has just designed a successful capsule collection for Macy’s earlier this year, offered no explanation about her exit. Even Tharanco Group, owner of the Doo.Ri label, did not expound on the reasons behind Chung’s departure, only wishing their former creative director well in “all her future endeavors.”
There is much mystery surrounding this move since the Doo.Ri label has been enjoying a steady climb to the top as recognition significantly grew in the last couple of years. Rumor has it however, that the Tharanco Group is looking at the possibility of shifting to a licensing model. As such, the probability of Chung clashing with the owner’s plans for the label doesn’t seem too far-fetched a reason behind her mysterious exit.
With such limited information given to the press, we’ll have to wait for more details to emerge from the designer herself. Until we unravel the mystery behind Chung’s departure, we at Fashion Glamour could only hope to see the designer’s penchant for technical design re-emerge in full force.
