Although it quietly maneuvered the fashion radar, Doo.ri Chung’s collection for Macy’s Impulse is fascinatingly her. True, the buzz wasn’t as strong as other designers such as Jason Wu, but Chung exceeded all expectations.
The collection puts Chung’s technical and creative brilliance to the forefront, setting to stone her precious namesake as one of the next great American designers. Her expertise in draping, prints and feminine silhouettes took center stage—each piece capturing her design aesthetics that have propelled her to fashion prominence.
Already available online and at Macy’s stores nationwide since last February 15, we share five looks that took our breath away. More importantly, these are looks that instinctively captured effortless chicness to a massive T.
This bold, painterly-printed red-and-white coat sent fist-sized butterflies in our tummies on a never-ending tailspin. Add the insanely cool crinkled and flat fabric collision to the style equation and we’re sold.
Again, Doo.Ri won us over with the painterly prints. This classic V-neck dress is something that one can easily put on before making a mad dash to the door, and still look chic as ever. The pleated skirt adds an extra dose of irresistible femininity.
There is something refreshing about this geometrically color-blocked number that made us stop and stare. Sweet and polished, women of style will find comfort in the dress’ exquisite draping and wrapped bodice.
If there is one item of clothing that never tires, it’s the little black dress. For this collection, Chung opts for subtle sexiness with the wrapped and ruched front. Simplicity hugs the spotlight, allowing a hodgepodge of accessorizing to complete this classic wardrobe must-have.
The black leather paneled pants is a familiar look women adore. In Chung’s flagstone grey version, she edges it up by adding lines and curves to make for an incredibly cool separate.
