Fashion darling Elle Fanning attended the Breaking Dawn Part 2 premiere in head-to-toe Prada, including the quirky Japanese-inspired platforms that got everyone buzzing in Milan.
Prada staged one of the most memorable runway shows during Milan Fashion Week, owed mostly to its quirkily amazing, wonderfully constructed Japanese-inspired collection. Of the many beautiful oddities that thrived on the catwalk, it was the fashion house’s shoe lineup for spring 2013 that took the cake as the most questionable. We know that no matter how bizarre and unconventional designers can get, someone in Hollywood—or fashion—will be bold enough to slip into one of those pairs.
While we were expecting to see someone in a Prada pair weeks after the show, we didn’t expect the 14-year-old Elle Fanning to tackle that feat. She stepped out on the red carpet to support the premiere of Breaking Dawn Part 2—where sister Dakota stars—last night. Dressed in head-to-toe Prada, Fanning unlocked the secret to pulling off those shoes. Leaving the metallic ninja toe socks at home, the young actress went for the least ostentatious, most pared down pair in the collection.
The shoes surprisingly went well with her deconstructed and backless dress, thanks to the shoes’ jeweled pink tones. On the runway, it did look uncannily awkward but on Fanning, it received just the right amount of youthfulness. Fanning may have sartorial leeway on her side given her youth, but she really did command the quirkiness of these shoes and not the other way around.
Although the actress essentially played it safe with this choice, that’s not saying the shoes weren’t off the wall on its own. Hopefully, this red carpet appearance from Fanning paved the way for more stars to dive into the Prada collection and branch out of their sartorial comfort zones. Well, we really just want to see the crazy Prada shoes out for a spin—and no, we don’t want Lady Gaga and her predictable eccentricities to follow suit.
