3.1 Phillip Lim Fall/Winter 2012

Next season, vibrant sundresses and sheer skirts will take a backseat as pants make a high-flying return in women’s sartorial arsenal. This fall, we’re bracing for the resounding arrival of tailored varieties that celebrate simplistic chicness to the fullest. Far from the easygoing nature of spring’s distressed denim or summer’s pastel skinny jean, we will instead be festooned with pants in classy silk satin, stunning menswear fit as well as romantic lace versions.

Our eyes however, are deeply fixated on the classic-yet-modern appeal of side-paneled pants. These pants, already embraced by models and celebrities on and off the red carpet, are ingeniously slimming and elongating. There’s no secret to the rule that vertical stripes deceive the eye and create the illusion of longer and legs, which is why we’re completely on board with this universally flattering trend.

Preen Fall/Winter 2012

While black and white is the combination of choice, Preen also branched out of this familiarity and presented us with wonderful creations that tease with a dash of color variety. This trend, which mixes the best of sharp masculinity and sexy feminine nuances, will surely be one of the biggest fashion stories next season. Just like the optical illusion Stella McCartney dress that Kate Moss wore to perfection a couple of months ago, we’re bound to see tailored pants become everyone’s favorite pair this coming fall.

Now, whoever believes that the only way to make legs look longer is by showing more skin and less fabric can sleep easy until fall rolls in. We may be all bundled up come September but that doesn’t mean we can’t borrow extra elevation from this clever fall essential that won’t give us Hypothermia.
