Christina Aguilera not only surprised us for looking decent at the 2012 ALMA Awards but also left us wondering why she opted for a Michael Kors dress that has seen enough red carpet attention eight months earlier. Even worse, the fact that it was perpetual stunner Angelina Jolie who wore the black lace cutout dress at the Producer’s Guild Awards back in January leads us to question her—or her stylist’s—decision-making skills.
Jolie, who kept everything monochromatic, went with a Jimmy Choo clutch and Ferragamo pumps. Mirroring the simplicity of her accessories, Jolie straightforwardly wore her hair down. While it’s almost a sartorial blasphemy to pit the two together for the sheer indifference of their everyday wardrobe choices, Aguilera didn’t look too shabby in the dress.
The fuller-figured singer managed to up the frock’s understated elegance by adding a lot of sparkle to her look. Keeping up with a black-and-silver color palette, Aguilera wore Neil Jane jewels, a glittery Judith Leiber clutch and a heavily-embellished Christian Louboutin Decorapumps platforms. Aguilera’s purple dip-dyed tips were a no-show, as she kept her hair neatly tied in a low ponytail.
Although Jolie looked beautiful in the leggy dress, Aguilera’s glitzier attitude made Jolie’s eight-month-old outfit look like a basic bore in black. On the other hand, you can’t discount the fact that Jolie looked superbly elegant in it. Whose side are you on? Is it Aguilera’s head-to-toe look that screams with more personality or Jolie’s safe-as-a-little-black-dress styling?
