Celebrities in peplum dresses may have been a red carpet eyesore the past season with nearly everyone dipping their sartorial toes in this trend, but there was only one woman who truly wowed and outclassed other peplum dress-wearing ladies. Clad in a simple scarlet Lanvin dress, Charlize Theron was the absolute center of all attention at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards held back in June.
Theron, who’s almost never amiss in a best dressed list, proved that she can be just as stunning in a glitter, sequin and frill-free frock. While that red Lanvin dress is still as memorable today as it was three months ago, another actress is trying to steal Theron’s thunder. At the premiere of Taken 2 during the 38th Annual Deauville American Film Festival, Dolores Chaplin wowed onlookers in a subtly luxurious red dress that was both breathtaking and uncomfortably familiar.
There is not much difference with how the two styled their way around the neoprene dress, opting to go for minimal jewelry. As if taking cue from Theron’s winning beauty look, Chaplin also wore her hair down and wore as little makeup as possible. Setting her look apart from Theron’s strappy gold sandals, Chaplin went for a pair of starkly black ankle-strap heels.
Whether it was Chaplin herself or her stylist who chose the Lanvin dress for the film premiere, we wonder why anyone would dare wear an outfit that has been worn by another actress. Even worse, she had the unfortunate luck in having A-list actress Theron as her opponent in this fashion face-off. Whose side of this elegant Lanvin dress are you on?
