If you haven’t heard of Gaspard Ulliel yet, now’s the perfect time to play stalker. The French actor and model, who has appeared in the film A Very Long Engagement and fronted campaigns for Chanel de Bleu, will be filling in some historic shoes in fashion. According to reports, Ulliel has been cast as Yves Saint Laurent himself in a biopic to be directed by Bertrand Bonello.
The industry hasn’t been short of documentaries remembering the stellar life and success of Yves Saint Laurent, but this time we believe it’s going to be far more compelling. For one, the film will be in French, which is unarguably an effort to stay true to the culture and environment where the designer saw success. Further, the biopic will underscore the beginnings of the fashion house and its reign during the 1960s and 70s.
It could not have arrived in a better time too, given that the maison has been the center of industry talks lately courtesy of Hedi Slimane‘s re-branding of the storied fashion house—so to speak. To be simply titled Saint Laurent, filming will commence next spring but a release date has yet to be disclosed.
