It’s often rare to see a designer stick to one model given the number of newcomers conquering the industry every season. One such designer is David Yurman, who has long been using Kate Moss as the star of his jewelry ads for the last eight years. The seemingly fairytale partnership however, has officially come to a high-profile end after Yurman called Moss out for copying his spring 2011 ads for the model’s own ad campaign with French jewelry company Fred.
While Moss has been mum about the issue, Yurman took the time to enlist the star power of Gisele Bundchen—the world’s highest-paid supermodel—to fill in the shoes that Moss was reportedly shoved away from. The 32-year-old Brazilian supermodel, who is without a baby bump in the fine jeweler’s fall campaign, is photographed by Peter Lindbergh on the shores of Malibu.
Although the brand’s new fall campaign carries the same attention for modern elegance, they dialed down the glamour for the Bundchen-fronted ads. The casually styled campaign sees the supermodel clad in a sleeved cotton top and string bikini, posing alongside a majestic black horse. Bundchen is nearly bare-faced for the black-and-white shoot as well, showing off her natural freckled face.
Do you think Yurman made the right decision in dropping Moss? Or do you think the megawatt appeal of Bundchen still can’t rival Moss’ waifish allure?
