Although Hedi Slimane left the fashion industry five years ago to pursue a career in photography, his trademark style and aesthetic were never forgotten. This year, Slimane marks his much-anticipated comeback, as he returns to Yves Saint Laurent as the maison’s new Creative Director.
Slimane, who was the fashion house’s former Artistic Director of Menswear, will “assume total creative responsibility” for the brand. This includes the brand’s image and all its collections. Although this will be the first time for Slimane to design a womenswear line, YSL CEO Paul Deneve believes that Slimane’s talent and understanding of the fashion house’s spirit will herald “a promising new chapter in the story of the maison.”
Many are also expecting the 43-year-old designer to shoot the brand’s advertising campaigns, as YSL announced that Slimane will continue his photography career.
