Earlier this month, Fashion Glamour reported that Nicolas Ghesquière will be leaving Balenciaga soon. Talks about who will replace Ghesquière have been going around even before he rendered his last day in the position, which happened to be today, November 30. Christopher Kane was the very first designer rumored to succeed Ghesquière, but after that has been squashed, there’s a new name being thrown into the guessing game.
In a post by Cathy Horyn on New York Times, the fashion critic very matter-of-factly mentioned that Wang is the “leading candidate” to take over Balenciaga. “An announcement of his appointment could be made as early as next week,” she wrote while referring to a Paris source.
Though there are still no confirmations as to whether Wang will direct the creative sails of the fashion house or not, there’s no doubt that Balenciaga will see a more urban aesthetic, something Wang is known for. Whether it’s Wang or Kane or another designer, wouldn’t it be nice if Balenciaga settles this issue once and for all?
