There is no question that Kate Upton is the model of the moment. Although the blonde bombshell is known more for her Sports Illustrated-ready appeal than her ability to slip into a high-fashion editorial character, many industry insiders and fashion experts seem to think that she has the goods to branch out of her commercial box. Michael Kors, for instance, notably invited Upton to this year’s Met Gala, much to the pleasant surprise of numerous naysayers and non-believers. Fashion’s most powerful publication, Vogue, has also shown a favorable nod as Upton appeared in the magazine’s July issue all covered up in luxurious designer pieces.
Today, the 20-year-old’s potential rise to high-fashion fame is looking doubly promising with rumors swirling around that she has been tapped to front the first full issue of the Carine Roitfeld-helmed CR Fashion Book due to be released in September. Fashionista is reporting that Roitfeld has already photographed Upton for the cover. The site’s source furthered that Upton is “Carine’s new Lara Stone,” which isn’t too far-fetched an idea since the two really share the similar bombshell appeal. It should also be noted that Upton recently walked for Roitfeld’s all-black fashion show for amFAR in Cannes, which only strengthens the possibility that she has indeed won the attention of the former Vogue editor.
Rumor or not, do you think Upton is the perfect choice for CR Fashion Book‘s premiere issue? Or do you think Roitfeld hiring her for the job is a departure from the CR vision?
