It’s hard to imagine that unapologetic Lady Gaga still get the occasional butterflies when she’s putting something out to the public, but such was the case when she tweeted a photograph of her latest ad for Fame. The image followed a tweet from the singer that read, “i won’t lie I’m a bit nervous. its been a while since i’ve shared some work with you. But i’m so proud of Steven+I, we really did not sleep!” As expected, the new ad evokes a disturbing creepiness that can only be associated with someone who loves provocativeness like Lady Gaga.
Front and center in the Steven Klein-photographed campaign is the singer’s body, which was on full display except for the upper half of her face that was eerily masked. A Lady Gaga-related effort is nothing if it is not controversial. As such, the ad also featured tiny little masked men wearing Sumo-like leather thongs and gloves. Even better, the men are captured climbing up her body and strategically covering her precious lady parts.
The black-and-white ad, which provokes and stirs with its unquestionably unique concept, is indeed a visual explosion. However, we think the perfume could have been pushed more to the spotlight since the image shows Lady Gaga oddly holding the flacon away from her.
