After months of excited anticipation, Christian Louboutin’s interpretation of Disney princess Cinderella’s glass slippers were finally revealed in Paris. Far from the all-glass assumptions that may have dominated the minds of Louboutin and Cinderella fans, the shoe designer’s fashion-forward reinterpretation instead boasts of a medley of lace, Swarovski crystals and glittered butterflies. The shoe extraordinaire’s signature red sole also made its way into the design.
Although we never really suspected Louboutin to use glass, we at Fashion Glamour were somehow looking forward to a clear and see-through pair that wasn’t in excess of glitter. Maison Martin Margiela, who also released a pair of Cinderella shoes in 2009 and was sold by piece, was a tad closer to the original design with its all-glass body and futuristic appeal.
We’re not sure if the rest of the fashion world is boarding our boat as regards this design, but we think the shoes would have looked better if they pulled back on the embellishment. The butterfly on the toe cap is acceptable, but another one near the heel is a bit too much for our liking. While we’re not swooning over this pair, women with a fascination for outright femininity will probably adore this pair. It still hasn’t been confirmed if these shoes will be up for purchase, but if they were, would you ever buy this pair?
