Just a month after the Del Rey debut, Mulberry is back with a new line of bags that carries the same slouch and flair as their iconic Alexa bag, but with a spirited slap of tassels. Departing from the usual—of turning towards a person for inspiration—the British label stumbled upon the idea from the festival-going British public.
“The Tassel collection came about after seeing gorgeous Mulberry girls at festivals, bags slung over their shoulders, not afraid of a bit of English mud,” said the label’s creative director Emma Hill in a British Vogue article. The new line, which has already been spotted on many young and stylish stars such as Emma Watson and Kate Bosworth, evokes the laid-back vibe and hippie fantasies often thriving in music festivals such as Coachella.
Although one can easily go overboard in imagining the collection, Mulberry stuck to its heritage, keeping the bag clean, sleek and trendy. Far from the usual festival bags we often see, Mulberry used the tassels as a decorative accent along with studs near the edge of front flap to create a decidedly modern bag. Similar to the Alexa bag, it’s the kind of piece you can throw your things in for its easy to pair with any ensemble. Besides the Tassel bag collection, Mulberry’s Lily bags were also updated with the same detail.
The bags are available on Mulberry’s website, where the Tassel bag collection comes in heavy suede, soft matte, and oak lizard and tiger haircalf. The Lily bags with tassels, on the other hand, are dressed in heavy suede.
