While the au naturel trend may be right up some women’s alley, others may find absolutely feminine makeup looks to be more fitting. This New York Fashion Week, several designers not only embraced femininity in the way they cut and created their collections but also in how they prepped up their models for the runway.
Although there’s something very pre-teen with the thought of pink-painted eyes, the new-season pinks offer the perfect combination of child-like playfulness and adult sophistication. At Costello Tagliapietra, it was romance through and through, with rosy eyes, cheeks and lips all coming together for a truly enviable beauty look.
With pink being a color too often associated with prettiness, some designers got more aggressive and created a look that was less sweet and more dramatic. Jill Stuart for instance, piled it on to create a soft smoky eye. Dusting the under-eye added more depth to the look, even creating a ghoulish effect. For us however, the eye makeup at Peter Som and Donna Karan’s runway shows were the two standouts. The eyes may have been perfectly painted in a delicate pink color, but there was a slight carelessness to its finish that’s telling another story.
