Peplum edges up

After taking over the spring runways, we didn’t think the ubiquitous peplum trend would see the light of day during the Fall shows but here they come again, reimagined for the new season. While the spring peplums tuned in to soft, feminine aesthetics, we love how the new peplums are bolder and edgier than ever. Designers took on the challenge of reinventing this recurring trend for the typically dark and subdued Fall season, and we’re highlighting our favorite looks from the shows.

Peter Pilotto

Peter Pilotto introduced the future of floral prints with this sharp and strong dress.

Cheeky and futuristic, the small peplum detail added a sense of structure and toughness to the cheery-hued dress.

Thakoon put the peplum on floral prints, which added depth and dimension to this bohemian dress.

There is a toughness to this simple long-sleeved dress that Etro achieved by adding the peplum detail, which afforded an armor-like shine to the look.

Mary Katrantzou

We love how Mary Katrantzou incorporated the structured peplum to contradict the feminine but exaggerated off-shoulder detail.

Bottega Veneta

Bottega Veneta brought a romantic moodiness to the usually sweet and dainty peplum detail.

Thierry Mugler

Thierry Mugler leaped to the future with this edgy and structured black-and-white piece.
