In his last runway show, Prabal Gurung surprised us with a floral-inspired collection that edged him to his sensual limits courtesy of the abundant display of sheer panels and revealing cuts.

Complementing this collection is this lusty campaign fronted by Candice Swanepoel, who trades her blonde locks for an enigmatic dark hair. Inspired by the Sensual Flowers series of Japanese photographer and contemporary artist Nobuyoshi Araki, carnal desire and femininity collide in Prabal Gurung’s evocative Spring 2012 campaign.

Against a sea of white, a nod towards innocence perhaps, Swanepoel contorts and writhes for photographer Daniel Jackson in some of the most memorable pieces from the collection. A womanly strength is also brought out, owed to the styling brilliance of Tiina Laakonen.

It is refreshing to be reminded that it has only been three years since Prabal Gurung launched his first collection and yet here he is, already admired for his penchant for modern silhouettes and intelligent artistry.

Born in Singapore and raised in Kathmandu, he has become a favored designer of today’s most powerful women as well, including Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey.
