Emma Watson rarely makes a misstep in the sartorial department. Having grown up (literally) right at the center of the public eye, she must have grown—no pun intended—accustomed to how one fashion misstep can land you on a list of terrible dressers or even worse, bashed to oblivion by style critics.
Ever the fashionista that she is, Emma Watson took a huge sartorial risk when she attended a special screening of The Perks of Being a Wallflower in London looking decidedly mature in a black strapless mini dress over a pair of cigarette trousers. This questionable Christian Dior ensemble, another look from Raf Simons’ wildly popular couture debut, gave off a serious 1990′s vibe, which divided many fashion critics.
At first glance, Watson looked like an awkward teenager trying to fit into her mom’s clothes. The dress itself is nice on its own, but we can’t get past how awkward it looks against the ill-fitting pair of pants. We reckon that had Watson shortened the dress’ hemline and slipped into a trouser that hugged tighter around her legs, it could have been a more successful foray into edgy dressing territory. That said, we have to give it to her for stepping out in an ensemble that could ignite an entirely new red carpet trend.
Do you think Watson pulled off this classic 1990′s look?
