Carine Roitfeld seems to be looking for bigger challenges to tackle this year after the debut issue of her CR Fashion Book sold out at newsstands last month. Do you think being stylist to a luxury label is one of the roles she’s eyeing this 2013?
Although Grazia earlier reported that Roitfeld will join Balenciaga as runway collection and ad campaign stylist, there is sadly, no truth to the story.
The rumor was formally squashed by New York Times reporter Eric Wilson. “P.S. I asked Carine Roitfeld about the Balenciaga styling rumor and she said not true. Direct quote: “I think I have enough on my plate,” he tweeted.
Grazia—the first media outlet to report the rumor—has already pulled down the story from their site. While the story is false, one cannot discount the massive buzz Balenciaga would have generated if they had indeed hired the Parisian editor.
There also lies a possibility that the brand was simply testing the waters, calculating how critics will respond.
Here at Fashion Glamour, we think there’s a speck of truth to this supposed partnership. For one, Roitfeld and Wang are known to be really good friends. Second, the brand’s current stylist, Marie-Amélie Sauvé, worked for former creative director Nicolas Ghesquiére.
With Wang having already replaced Ghesquiére, who’s to say he isn’t planning a creative reshuffling during his tenure?
