Still Trending: Pixie Cuts
Posted by on July 18, 2012 | 4:35 pm EST

The pixie cut has been around since the 1920’s but it was only when Twiggy and Mia Farrow donned the haircut did it truly took off in popularity. Although there have been a number of It hairstyles that kept salons in business, it’s the unassuming stylishness of the pixie cut that continue to get us excited. Almost without even trying, this major hair-chop gives women an instantaneous beauty change.

The women of Hollywood were quick in recognizing the edginess of the cut, with the likes of Victoria Beckham and Keira Knightley as some of the women who first took the plunge and cut their hair. Frankly, we can’t pinpoint how it re-emerged and who to credit, but when one woman of style did it, other celebrities were quick to hitch a ride in the pixie-cut movement.

Here at Fashion Glamour, we adore women who can emotionally detach themselves from their hair, slip into an ever-daring character, and embrace a beauty risk every so often. With that, here are five women of glamour who have confidently sported—or still sporting—this casual-yet-sophisticated haircut.

Carey Mulligan attends the 32nd Annual London Film Critics' Circle Awards

There’s no other woman whom we think was fated to sport the pixie cut style than British actress and fashion darling Carey Mulligan. Blessed with a picture-perfect face, Mulligan’s daring pixie cut didn’t dampen her beauty at all. In fact, we think the cut has allowed her to be more experimental with her sartorial choices on the red carpet. The haircut may not offer a lot of styling options, but Mulligan usually doesn’t need to overcompensate for she carries herself with such old-worldly sophistication anyway.

Zoe Kravitz attends the world premiere of The Dark Knight Rises

Although the pixie cut hair is often the go-to style of women who desire a wash-and-wear hair, Zoe Kravitz proves that though it exudes of casualness, it can be edgy and sexy as well. While much of her haircut’s sexed up appeal can be owed to her natural vixen-like persona, we adore how the actress has injected edge into this haircut.

Ginnifer Goodwin attends the "Cars Land" Grand Opening at Disneyland

Before Ginnifer Goodwin cut her hair, we thought she was already gorgeous—until she decided to trade her dark locks for a more fashion-forward pixie cut. Her daring beauty move truly paid off for we’ve never adored her as much as we do now. Her hair has also afforded an extra dose of chicness as we noticed how Goodwin has been opting for trendier, experimental choices lately.

Michelle Williams attends the premiere of Take This Waltz during the 11th Annual Tribeca Film Festival

Michelle Williams morphed into a movie star from decades past when she cut off majority of her glorious blonde hair for a stunning pixie cut. This wash-and-wear look suits Williams’ chic and quirky style. Far from Kravitz’ sexy approach to styling her pixie cut, the actress has always favored clean and uncomplicated styles that complement her preference for ladylike ensembles and pastel hues.

Anne Hathaway attends the European premiere of The Dark Knight Rises

When Anne Hathaway first stepped out with her shorter hair, which she cut for her role in Les Misérables, we couldn’t even tell that the star was truly not happy about this bold move. These days however, we’re assuming she’s learned to love her new hair for we think this look suits her to perfection. There’s a bit of mod-minimalism with how she carries herself these days, which appears to be rooted on her edgy new hair.
