Although they work as designers’ clothes hangers, models’ sartorial suaveness isn’t as genetic as their mile-long legs or androgynous faces. Occasionally however, there comes a model like Belgian Hanne Gaby Odiele who creates a stir each time she steps out during fashion week season. Odiele, who started modeling in 2005, boasts of a fashion style that is truly unique and entirely her own. Her style resonates with authenticity and individuality, devoid of consumerist influences and banal conformities.
Consistently photographed in bold and often wacky ensembles, Odiele’s kaleidoscope taste often renders other models invisible when she’s around. While head-to-toe black is the industry’s color of choice, Odiele defies that stigma as she steps out in outfits that transcend all fashion rules when it comes to pitting colors, prints and silhouettes together. Her preferences also cover both ends of the fashion spectrum, as she is seen in both designer duds and vintage finds. One day she would unleash her feminine side, but on some occasions, her tomboyish slant will push through.
Although Odiele’s style is often questionable and eccentric, we think it’s just one enormous and beautiful sartorial jumble we can’t pin down. Whether you dig it or not, you can’t deny that Odiele knows how to make a striking statement.
