Fashion Houses’ Reorganization

The industry was stunned when labels shuffled their ranks, leaving everyone biting on their manicured fingernails to find out who’s leaving, taking a break and being replaced. One of the most talked-about issues is Nicolas Ghesquière’s departure from Balenciaga, which led to many speculations as to who will follow in Ghesquière’s memorable stint. A few weeks later, Alexander Wang was revealed as his successor.

Back in March, French label Yves Saint Laurent–now known as Saint Laurent Paris–caused a commotion after announcing that Hedi Slimane is the maison’s new Creative Director. A month before that huge comeback, Belgian designer Raf Simons was first to be the center of attention in the industry after he left Jil Sander to return to Dior.

Although they don’t bask in the fashion spotlight, many publications hogged headlines as well. From Joanna Coles departure from Marie Claire to Nina Garcia’s appointment at the same glossy as Creative Director, these stylish and powerful ladies proved that the people who incessantly critique and write about fashion are just as newsworthy.

Sally Singer wasn’t the only one who made the headlines when she chose to leave T magazine for Vogue last August, because fashionista Eva Chen also ended her more than six-year tenure at Teen Vogue. In November, the platinum-haired Kate Lanphear also bowed out of Elle.

Many was driven mad with excitement when former Vogue Paris editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld released the first image from her then much-anticipated fashion bible so we wasted no time reporting the good news that CR Fashion Book sold out at various newsstands.

Meanwhile, media-shy Kate Moss also ventured into the publishing industry, unveiling her very first coffee table book called The Kate Moss Book. The book, which contains some of her most beautiful editorial spreads and ad campaigns, also offered a series of her infamous topless shots.

Finishing off our list are the supermodels who gave birth this year. In May, Alessandra Ambrosio and husband Jamie Mazur welcomed a son named Noah. A month later, American model Lily Aldridge gave birth to Dixie Pearl. In September, Adriana Lima and Marko Jaric became second-time parents to baby Sienna. Wrapping up the babies list is Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen, who gave birth to a possible future Victoria’s Secret Angel whom she named Vivian Lake.

What a fashionable year, right? Now, you can bid adieu to 2012 to greet 2013 with a smile on your face and a champagne glass in your hand.
