To say that Karlie Kloss’ reign is over is a gross disrespect to the still-important supermodel, but we think it’s pretty safe to assume that Kloss’ isn’t everybody’s favorite moving mannequin to dress these days for fashion has found a new It girl to fawn over. The name isn’t too unfamiliar since the mention of her last name already spurs images of fierce style and worldwide fashion recognition.
Model-of-the-moment Cara Delevingne, one-third of the socialite Delevingne sisters, is giving established supermodels a run for their money as the new designer muse. During the past spring 2013 season alone, she landed herself numerous—we lost count after 50—runway appearances from virtually every label that matters. The past season is her true breakout season, but the months running up to the just-concluded spring shows weren’t Delevingne-free. Before booking more than 50 runway shows, she’s already been spotted by British luxury label Burberry a year before.
Although her status as an up-and-comer in the industry is debatable, it’s easy to assume that she’s a veteran. With her inimitable on-camera appeal and knockout posing talent, she’s a model shoo-in. Known for her signature bushy brows, knife-like gaze and pursed lips, Delevingne has been the new fashion darling of designers around the world—may it be Milan, New York, London or Paris. Everybody’s scrambling to book this girl and we know why.
While models are catapulted to fame because of their ungodly long legs (Karlie Kloss), dramatic pouts (Lindsay Wixon and Daphne Groeneveld) or machine-like ability to churn out cover-ready poses in a minute (Coco Rocha), none has so far carved her name on the modeling landscape based on winning personality. She may be just another face in a sea of genetically blessed models, but when you factor in her ingenious ability to turn off her model persona and be just like any other girl on the street; you just know she’s a gem.
Browsing photos from the spring 2012 season, we kept stumbling upon images of Delevingne hamming it up for the camera like any teenager would. While other models are giving out their fiercest model stares, there is Delevingne sticking her tongue out like a teenager or flailing her arms like a headless chicken. Yes, that untamed, free-spirited and down-to-earth vibe of hers is exactly why everybody adores her. She’s seriously likeable and downright gorgeous; two things that make us want to be her best friend.
Sure, nepotism may be contested by some, but you can’t argue that this 20-year-old British model and socialite knows how to work her angles—and make us laugh too. A model with a priceless humor? That’s something special. Click through the slideshow to see the many wacky faces of Cara Delevingne we spotted during the spring 2013 fashion weeks.
