We may hail from the US, but that doesn’t mean we shun fashion that doesn’t blossom from this side of the planet. Last night, the British Fashion Council rolled out the red carpet at The Savoy Hotel to announce this year’s nominees for the British Fashion Awards. This annual celebration of impeccable British fashion talent will not only recognize the most enduring designers, brands and models, but also give credit to the industry’s emerging and promising stars.
In a press release, British Fashion Council chariman Harold Tillman CBE said that “2012 has been a momentous year and seen a nationwide celebration of British talent. The British Fashion Awards recognise and celebrate the exceptional individuals and brands who’ve defined our fashion industry over the past year and we’re incredibly proud to announce these nominees who represent a cross section of British fashion talent.”
Nominated for this year’s most important accolade, Designer of the Year, are Christopher Kane, Mary Katrantzou and Stella McCartney. Interestingly, McCartney is also nominated as Designer Brand of the Year and the Red Carpet Award. In addition to the existing 11 categories, two more awards will be handed out this year: the BFC Outstanding Achievement Award and the British Style Award. The style award wiiner will be determined through online voting on www.britishfashionawards.co.uk/britishstyle.
The winners of the British Fashion Awards 2012 will be announced at a ceremony hosted by Lauren Laverne and Nick Grimshaw on November 27. While we have two months’ worth of waiting left in our fashion calendar, see if your favorite British designers have made the shortlist below.
