Everyone in fashion got all worked up and excited upon hearing news that Givenchy and H&M were collaborating on a mass-market collection. While several fashion editors, critics, bloggers and fans nearly went ballistic in excitement, confirmation from both brands arrived slow, prolonging the agony of its falsity.

On November 19, Fashion Industry Confessions posted on Tumblr, a photo of a Givenchy model with her eyes covered with a statement that read, “Rumours straight from the Givenchy headquarters have it that they will collaborate with H&M next year.” It quickly spread like wildfire, to which various media outlets reacted to.

Unfortunately, Vogue UK reported the next day that the luxury brand denied it and called the rumors “false.” H&M creative advisor Margareta Van Den Bosch also explained that there will be no designer collaboration happening soon. “We will not have any [collaborations] for Spring [2013]. We decided to skip it, as we have had so many this year. So it’ll be something for next November,” she told the Telegraph.

We can’t be sure if the H&M statement counts as a denial or a mere teaser, since Van Den Bosch only said they have no collaborations for spring 2013. Perhaps the Givenchy x H&M collaboration is slated for a fall 2013 release? Who knows?

Having worked with brands such as Marni and Maison Martin Margiela, a Riccardo Tisci-designed mass-market collection doesn’t seem too impossible  to be honest. The rumors may have quieted down for now, but there’s no doubt that Givenchy fans are crossing their fingers for this amazing collaboration to happen.
