Just like Hollywood, the fashion industry is no stranger when it comes to rumors. But among these talks, the most recent would be that of Christopher Kane being Balenciaga’s next creative director. A few weeks ago, Nicolas Ghesquière was booted out of the French house and from that moment on, the biggest question that clouded everyone in the industry was, “Who will succeed him?”
On November 16, French news site Le Nouvel Observateur reported that Kane will assume the creative director post at Balenciaga beginning December 1. However, Balenciaga was quick to slam the report as a representative clarified that the ”Rumors surrounding Christopher Kane’s appointment as creative director of Balenciaga are unfounded.”
While the tittle-tattles are yet to be confirmed by both parties, we’re still left to contemplate the other candidates to front Balenciaga. J.W. Anderson, Alexander Wang, and Joseph Altuzarra are among the front-runners to take Kane’s seat once he officially leaves the fashion house on November 30.
As of press time, we’re still waiting for verification if Kane will indeed work as Balenciaga’s new creative director or if another designer will take the job. If there’s to be learned when it comes to label shakeups however, it’s that denial always precedes confirmation.
