Yay or Nay: Alexander McQueen lace-up wedge sandals

Alexander McQueen is no stranger to provocativeness. His strong penchant for the avant-garde continues to this day, albeit boasting a dreamier aesthetic thanks to Sarah Burton. While Fashion Glamour has always been a fan of the label’s characteristic boldness, we’re not quite sure where these lace-up leather wedge sandals belong to—McQueen’s experimental slant or Burton’s love for fantasy.

When we saw this pair at the Alexander McQueen spring runway show last year, we have to admit it that we liked it. It exuded a structured romance that you don’t always stumble upon these days. Then again, it is a runway show where everything’s made to look particularly alluring and at the very least, close to perfection. These shoes however, in real life, seem to pose a challenge even before you can actually walk in them. For one, the beautiful-but-busy lace-up front is one intricate maze that comes close to the epic difficulty of a labyrinth in Alice in Wonderland. The runway look that showed off these shoes, featured a clean finish on the front. We’re assuming the laces were cut off. If that is the case, would you be willing to cut off those precious laces?

That aside, we’re actually quite fond of this unique pair. Sculptural heels are all the rage these days, but the addition of the cutout on the 5.5-inch heel heightened the architectural design genius of these shoes. Although McQueen is the label where the unusual is what rules, we’re still on the fence as regards the stylishness of this pair. Fans of the label can nab these lace-up leather wedge sandals for $6,195.
