Alexander McQueen shearling and leather ankle boots

It truly is boot season as designers left and right churn out their most fabulous pairs for every woman’s taking. From the tried-and-tested versatility of a wedge boot to the unavoidable ubiquity of a biker boot, stepping into your favorite brands’ boutiques guarantees that you’ll be spotting a pair or two you’d want to shop the soonest. With the list of options as endless as the LBD varieties we have these days, the boot-shopping challenge is not in shopping a great buy but in actually stumbling into a pair that stands out—on top of it being a gem of a find.

This pair of boots from Alexander McQueen, retailing for $1,895, meets all the mark of such pair alright, but we can’t be sure if it actually merits the notion of a stunning standout. Although the collision of lavish shearling and sleek leather are all familiar elements of the season, there’s inexplicably something extreme about it. The brown leather material peeking under the sumptuously cozy ivory is an interesting detail; however it’s one that puts us on the fence about its general likeability. While we love the play between color and texture, we can’t help but think of the sheer volume of shearling wrapping this pair is bordering excessive.

The curved heel, a detail we don’t necessarily fall head over in heels for—pun intended—actually looks pretty nice. The stunning chocolate brown hue is just as gorgeous, complementing its sleekness. We would have probably loved this pair if the label pared down on the shearling because one look from afar makes it appear like the wearer is sporting an animal on her feet—completely unethical, mind you. Now, nobody wants to have to run away from a PETA representative on your lazy day stroll on the streets of New York, right?
