Christian Louboutin almost always never makes a misstep. Even his 20th anniversary collection, which was packed with extraordinarily-unique footwear rarities that looked more fitting to be displayed in an extravagant glass case, was received with open arms. Fashion Glamour understands that taste is highly subjective, which is why we’d like to argue the stylishness of these snorkeling neoprene booties.
Although other shoe designers have incorporated neoprene into their footwear collections before, there’s something off-putting with how the shoes are presented. There’s no arguing in the color combinations, which nailed the appropriate boldness of the season, but we can’t help but feel suffocated at the sock-like fit of these shoes. Neoprene, although relatively lightweight, has the tendency to look severely sporty which was the case in this design endeavor.
The ring on front looks like a zipper, but is truthfully an irrelevant embellishment that could have worked better if it had been indeed a zipper. As such, wearing these shoes will be a womanly-but-Herculean task, for one has to muscle her foot inside to parade these shoes downtown. Besides the distracting confinement these pairs exude, we can’t look past the odd toe divider that we deem unflattering.
Louboutin may be one of the most important shoe designers right now, but clearly he isn’t immune to a fashion faux pas every now and then. Women eager to nab these interesting shoes should go to Net-a-Porter and Bergdorf Goodman, where these retail for $895.
