For the women who refuse to ride on the sneaker bandwagon because of its lack of, well, ladylike finesse, DKNY’s spring 2013 collection has something in store for you. Departing from the comfort of last season’s wedges courtesy of Isabel Marant and Marc Jacobs, the label took this trend on a 180-degree spin, dropped the wedges and went for dangerously thin stiletto heels.
With a collection that was as sporty as it was glamorous, such effort was only fitting. While our eyes immediately gravitated toward these sky-high sneaker stilettos, we can’t help but remember the dowdy high-heeled sneakers Skechers put out years ago. That said, we’re not trying to compare the two since the details on DKNY’s designs—the lined tongue, sleek Velcro straps and pointed toe cap—are far too gorgeous for mainstream comparison.
The design may be outstanding but we really can’t get past through all the inappropriate elevation DKNY injected in their sneakers. Obviously, comfort came secondary to DKNY’s desire to bring sneakers into more glamorous territories. We at Fashion Glamour are all for high-octane glamour, but sneakers and stiletto heels? We just don’t get it. Are you looking forward to wearing these stiletto sneakers next spring? Or are you with us on this one?
