Hedi Slimane’s return to Yves Saint Laurent drew a resounding applause and drove critics leaping in excitement, but it seems as if the label is shutting out the press from seeing the first two collections under Slimane’s creative direction. WWD confirmed that the international fashion press will have to exercise extreme patience as the label implements a press blackout, barring fashion news outlets from seeing the Resort 2013 womenswear and Spring 2013 menswear collections.

According to WWD, the shows will instead be exclusively shown to fashion buyers in late June or early July. As such, we probably won’t be seeing any of the pieces from the collections until they go on sale.

Although it seems as if the house is shooing away the fashion press, a YSL spokesperson confirmed that this measure was taken to give Slimane a more dramatic and major fashion statement at the label’s Spring 2013 womenswear runway show in Paris this fall.

He may have been away from the fashion industry for years, but clearly, Slimane knows how to create hype and fan anticipation. With so much secrecy surrounding his womenswear debut, we can’t help but expect the YSL house to produce a show that is nothing short of perfection.
